Blot First — Never Rub
Rubbing grinds pigment deeper into fibers. Blot from the outside edge inward with a clean white cloth, then keep the stain damp until you can treat it.
Wine, Grease, Mud, Ink
Red wine: cover with salt, then rinse cold. Grease: dish soap worked in gently before washing hot. Mud: let it dry completely, brush off, then wash. Ink: dab with rubbing alcohol on a cloth — never pour it on.
The One Thing to Never Do
Never put a stained garment in a hot dryer “to see if it came out.” Heat sets most stains permanently. Air-dry and check first.
