Shirts take more abuse than almost anything you own — sweat, collars, cuffs, daily friction. A few small habits can easily double how long they look sharp.
1. Rest Shirts Between Wears
Fibers need about 24 hours to release moisture and spring back. Rotating five shirts instead of three can add a full year to each one.
2. Wash Cold, Button the Collar
Cold water protects dyes and elastic. Button collars and turn shirts inside out — it cuts collar fray dramatically.
3. Skip the Dryer When You Can
Heat is the main killer of fit. Hang-dry shirts, then finish with a quick steam press for that crisp, just-cleaned look.
- Pretreat collars and cuffs before every wash.
- Use half the detergent you think you need.
- Store on wide hangers, top button closed.
